Sunrise Meditation on Mount Royal

“Arising from the surrounding darkness, seeing the higher light, we have reached the Divine Sun, the supreme light.”

— Rigveda I.50.10

The time when night transitions into day is considered to be an ideal time for meditative practices. This transformative time, known in Sanskrit as ‘sandhi’ meaning junction or joint, is also reflected inward. Contemplative practice at this time transforms and awakens awareness. The light of the sun is a powerful symbol of our own inner light that begins to shine through during a practice.

Start the day with this meditative walk up Mont Royal to take in the sunrise. Observe the change from night to day as well as the progression of the season.
